Aegisub

Aegisub is a subtitle creation and editing tool that runs on macOS, Windows, and Linux. It provides a graphical interface for timing, typesetting, and translating subtitle tracks, supporting common formats and allowing precise control over line timing and visual style. The program is built on a set of open‑source libraries and includes a built‑in audio and video preview to synchronize text with media.

The software is aimed at translators, fansubbers, and anyone who needs to produce or adjust subtitles for video content. Users can edit existing files, create new ones from scratch, and apply styles or effects while previewing the result in real time. Aegisub also offers scripting support through LuaJIT, enabling custom automation and extensions.

Distribution is handled via source code that can be compiled with standard toolchains such as Visual Studio on Windows, Xcode on macOS, and Meson/Ninja on Linux.
