Alacritty
GPU-accelerated terminal emulator
Alacritty is a modern terminal emulator that relies on GPU acceleration via OpenGL to deliver high‑throughput rendering on BSD, Linux, macOS and Windows. It ships with sensible defaults but is highly configurable through a TOML file located in standard configuration directories. By delegating functionality such as tab management and pane splitting to external tools like window managers or multiplexers, Alacritty keeps its core lightweight while still supporting features documented in its feature list.
The emulator requires at least OpenGL ES 2.0 and, on Windows, ConPTY support (Windows 10 1809 or newer). Precompiled binaries are provided for macOS and Windows, and package managers supply builds for the other supported platforms. Users can consult the manual page or online documentation for configuration details.
Alacritty is released under the Apache License 2.0 and is considered stable, though it is labeled as beta due to occasional missing features and bugs. It is widely used as a daily driver by developers who prioritize performance and a minimal, GPU‑accelerated terminal experience.
