Azimutt

Visual database exploration made for real world databases (big and messy). Explore your database schema as well as data, document them, extend them and even get analysis and guidelines.

Azimutt provides an interactive visual interface for exploring and analysing relational databases, especially those that have grown large and complex. It renders an entity‑relationship diagram that can be built from a schema file or a live connection, and lets users search across tables and columns, follow foreign‑key relations, and view data directly in the diagram. The tool also supports documentation by attaching notes, tags, and layout memos to schema objects, and it runs a set of analysis rules that highlight inconsistencies and suggest best‑practice improvements.

The software is aimed at developers, architects, DBAs, data analysts, product managers and support teams who need to understand, onboard to, or maintain extensive database structures. It is useful for teams working with monoliths or micro‑service ecosystems, for analysts investigating new data sources, and for engineers troubleshooting queries or performance issues.

Azimutt is an open‑source, MIT‑licensed project that can be self‑hosted and used without a subscription. It offers a free tier, a command‑line entry point for exploration and analysis, and a web‑based UI that works with PostgreSQL, MySQL and other relational engines. The platform emphasizes incremental layout building, searchable navigation, and rule‑based schema validation.
