BookShelves is an eBook reader and library manager for macOS, iPhone, and iPad that supports a wide range of formats, including EPUB, PDF, MOBI, AZW, KEPUB, and comic‑book archives such as CBZ and CBR. It renders these files natively and offers a clean, distraction‑free reading interface with customizable fonts, sizes, and themes, as well as progress tracking, bookmarks, and multi‑window support on macOS.

The app synchronizes a user’s personal library across Apple devices through iCloud, allowing reading to start on one device and continue on another without a separate account. It can import books by double‑clicking, drag‑and‑drop, or sharing from the iOS Files app, and includes a built‑in Calibre wireless sync server for cable‑free transfers to other e‑readers.

BookShelves also provides access to thousands of public‑domain titles from sources like Standard Ebooks and the Internet Archive, and it can connect to any OPDS catalog for additional downloads. Metadata and cover images are fetched automatically, while privacy is emphasized by keeping data on the user’s devices and iCloud, with only optional anonymous analytics.
