It routes data through Cloudflare’s extensive network, which also powers the 1.1.1.1 DNS resolver, aiming to lower latency and improve reliability for everyday web use.

It is offered at no cost for macOS, Windows, and other platforms, with an optional subscription that expands access to additional Cloudflare data‑center locations for potentially faster performance. The software is positioned for individual users who want a simple, one‑tap way to make their online activity more private and stable, as well as for organizations that can enroll devices through Cloudflare Gateway to protect remote workforces.

The product builds on Cloudflare’s existing security and performance infrastructure, leveraging the same network that serves millions of Internet properties, and emphasizes that user data is never sold.
