Damselfly

Fast server-based photo management system for large collections of images. Includes face detection, face & object recognition, powerful search, and EXIF Keyword tagging. Runs on Linux, MacOS and Windows.

Damselfly is a server‑based digital photograph management system that organizes large, folder‑structured image collections. It indexes a wide range of formats—including JPEG, PNG, HEIC, TIFF, WebP, BMP and RAW files—and stores metadata in EXIF tags without re‑encoding images, enabling fast, non‑destructive keyword tagging. The web front‑end offers full‑text and advanced searches, allowing filters by date, camera data, objects, faces, visual similarity and more, with results from half‑million images returned in under a second.

The platform incorporates machine‑learning image analysis such as facial detection, facial recognition (offline or via an optional Azure service) and object detection, which can automatically apply tags across the library after a single manual annotation. Multi‑user accounts and role‑based permissions let administrators control access, while a basket feature lets users collect, export, watermark or share selected images, and a desktop client synchronises basket contents to a local folder for editing.

Damselfly runs on Linux, macOS, Windows and Docker, built with .NET 7, Blazor WebAssembly and EFCore 7, and is released under the GPL‑3.0 license as free, self‑hostable, open‑source software.
