DeSmuME
Nintendo DS emulator
DeSmuME emulates the Nintendo DS hardware, allowing games designed for the handheld console to run on desktop operating systems. It provides a core emulation engine with optional dynamic recompilation (JIT) to improve performance, and supports features such as high‑resolution 3D rendering and GPU scaling that increase the native 256 × 192 pixel output. The software includes platform‑specific front‑ends, notably a Cocoa interface for macOS and a Windows interface, each receiving incremental enhancements and bug fixes.
The emulator is targeted at users who wish to play Nintendo DS titles on computers, including developers testing homebrew or researchers studying the system. It runs on macOS (with Mountain Lion support and universal binaries) and other desktop platforms, offering save‑state handling and configurable emulation settings. Wi‑Fi functionality is not emulated, and the project explicitly does not aim to support newer 3DS/2DS hardware.
DeSmuME is released as a stable, open‑source package, with regular updates that address compatibility, performance, and user‑interface improvements. It is distributed without commercial licensing, and users are directed to a support forum for bug reports and assistance.
