Disk Inventory X

Disk Inventory X visualizes the contents of a macOS volume using treemap graphics, where each rectangle represents a file or folder sized proportionally to its disk usage. By scanning a selected drive, it produces a hierarchical view that lets users quickly identify large items and understand how space is distributed across directories. The interface provides basic navigation and can highlight to or folders for further inspection.

The tool targets macOS users who need to locate and manage files consuming significant storage, especially when the cause of reduced free space is unclear. It is useful for both casual users and administrators who prefer a visual approach to disk‑space analysis.

Built as a free, GPL‑licensed application, Disk Inventory X incorporates the KDirStat layout algorithm and draws inspiration from the Windows utility WinDirStat. It runs on macOS 10.13 through 10.15 and is distributed as a stable release.
