Eclipse Che
Open source workspace server and cloud IDE.
Eclipse Che provides a Kubernetes‑native platform that creates cloud‑based development workspaces. Each workspace runs in its own pod, bundling the code, dependencies, containerized runtimes and a web‑based IDE, so the environment is portable and can be reproduced on any Kubernetes cluster. Users can start a workspace from a Git repository or a Devfile, switch IDEs such as Visual Studio Code or JetBrains IDEs, and access the Kubernetes API directly from the editor.
The system targets enterprise development teams that need consistent, repeatable environments without configuring individual laptops. By defining workspaces with the open Devfile format, projects can version their development setup alongside source code, enabling fast onboarding and collaborative coding across distributed teams.
Eclipse Che is self‑hostable, available under the EPL‑1.0 license, and includes a free tier without subscription requirements. It integrates an embedded VS Code extensions registry and supports automated extension installation, while also offering a public online service for quick evaluation.
