Heynote provides a persistent text buffer that is split into independent blocks, each of which can be created with a simple shortcut and selected in isolation. The block‑oriented layout is useful for drafting snippets such as API responses, meeting notes, or to‑do items without the risk of accidental sending. Each block can be assigned a language, giving syntax highlighting and auto‑formatting for a range of programming languages.

In addition to code‑oriented blocks, Heynote includes calculator blocks that support arithmetic, variables, functions, and unit conversions, including currency handling. Users can maintain multiple note buffers, create new ones on demand, and move blocks between buffers; buffers are stored as files on disk and can be organized in directories. The editor also accepts inline images via paste or drag‑and‑drop, allows resizing, and offers a lightweight drawing tool for freehand annotations that can be copied back to the clipboard.

Heynote is released as free, open‑source software and runs on macOS (both Intel and Apple Silicon), Windows, and Linux via AppImage or Snap packages. It is positioned as a developer‑focused scratchpad that combines code editing, quick calculations, and image annotation in a single persistent workspace.
