KodeLife
Real-time GPU shader editor
KodeLife provides a native editor for writing and visualizing GPU shaders in real time. As the user types, the code is compiled and the resulting graphics are displayed instantly, allowing rapid prototyping of visual effects without needing a large engine or lengthy build steps. The application supports OpenGL GLSL, Metal Shading Language, DirectX HLSL and offers basic compute‑shader capabilities.
The tool runs on macOS, Windows, Linux—including Raspberry Pi— and also has mobile builds for iOS and Android, making it possible to develop and test shaders across desktop and handheld devices. It can share its output directly with other applications via Syphon and Spout, or export still images as PNG files. The user interface is available in English and Japanese, with additional localizations planned.
KodeLife is distributed as a lightweight, single‑user license without subscription requirements, and the same license applies to all supported desktop platforms. Mobile versions are sold through the respective app stores, and volume or educational discounts can be requested from the developer.
