LMMS
Open-source digital audio workstation for music production.
LMMS is a free, open‑source digital audio workstation that runs on Windows, Linux and macOS. It lets users compose, sequence, mix and automate music within a single interface, supporting playback via a MIDI controller or the computer’s typing keyboard. The program can import MIDI files and Hydrogen project files, allowing easy integration of existing material.
The suite includes a variety of built‑in instruments, such as sixteen synthesizers that emulate classic chips and consoles, and supports 64‑bit VST instruments with a 32‑bit bridge on Windows. It also handles multisample formats like SoundFont, Giga and Gravis UltraSound, providing high‑quality patches and banks. For effects, LMMS offers built‑in compressors, limiters, delays, reverb, distortion, equalizers and a spectrum analyzer, along with LADSPA and VST plug‑in support on Linux and Windows.
Targeted at musicians and producers who need a cross‑platform, community‑driven tool, LMMS combines composition, synthesis and mixing capabilities without cost, and encourages users to share their creations through its open‑source ecosystem.
