MetaZ

MetaZ is a macOS‑only application for editing MP4 metadata. It was created as a reimplementation of the earlier MetaX tool after that project stopped receiving updates and lost compatibility with several web services. The program provides a graphical interface for viewing and modifying tags such as title, artist, album, artwork, and other standard MP4 fields, and it supports window resizing that was missing in its predecessor.

The software includes a modest ecosystem of optional plugins, including a classic “moo” effect and a Script Debugger template that demonstrates how plugins can respond to various events. Users can install plugins by dropping the unpacked script onto the MetaZ dock icon, extending functionality without altering the core application.

Development follows a GitHub flow workflow, encouraging contributions via feature branches, documentation updates, and testing before pull requests. Accepted contributors may gain direct commit access to the repository, though the project emphasizes code review to maintain stability.
