NotePlan 3 combines a calendar, task list, and note‑taking workspace into plain‑text markdown files. Each day a new note page is generated, allowing users to add tasks, events, and free‑form notes in a single view. Weekly, monthly and yearly notes are also available for longer‑term planning, and an upcoming‑tasks filter shows future commitments that can be rescheduled by drag‑and‑drop or keyboard shortcuts.

The application supports personal knowledge management through markdown linking and bi‑directional references, letting notes and tasks be connected across the database. Users can organise content with nested folders, tags, or custom systems such as PARA, and a command bar provides quick access to search, AI‑assisted summarisation, rewriting, and plugin actions.

Task handling includes recurring items, time‑blocking, checklists and integration with the built‑in calendar, so scheduled tasks appear automatically in the appropriate daily notes. The tool is aimed at tech‑savvy professionals who want a single, markdown‑based hub for managing schedules, to, and notes across macOS, iPhone, iPad and the web.
