OctoType
A customizable typing trainer.
OctoType is a terminal‑based typing trainer built with the Ratatui library and powered by Gladius. It runs in a text user interface and lets users practice typing through configurable modes and word sources, allowing a high degree of personalization compared with more fixed trainers. The program includes theming options, visual performance graphs, and is designed to be lightweight (around 2 MB) and fast, leveraging Rust for low latency.
The tool is aimed at developers and typists who prefer a command‑line environment and want to tailor the training experience to specific vocabularies, difficulty levels, or visual styles. Configuration is handled via a settings file that can be overridden at launch, and the application provides command‑line flags for printing the current configuration, settings, or help information.
Installation is supported through Cargo and Nix, with a flake‑based development shell available for contributors. The project is in a stable yet actively developed state, acknowledging that future updates may introduce breaking changes to modes, sources, or configuration formats.
