QuickWall
Directly set wallpapers from Unsplash.
QuickWall is a command‑line utility that fetches images from Unsplash and applies them as desktop wallpapers. It automatically detects the current desktop environment or window manager and uses an appropriate wallpaper setter—such as nitrogen, feh, KDE, XFCE, GNOME, or Unity—to place the image, with optional integration of pywal to generate a matching color scheme.
The tool is written in Python 3.6+, distributed via PyPI and the Arch User Repository, and stores downloaded files in a cache directory under ~/.cache/QuickWall. Users can request the latest Unsplash photo, a random image, or search by keyword, and can also specify a particular Unsplash ID. Additional flags allow disabling blacklist handling, theme generation, or setting the lock‑screen wallpaper on KDE.
QuickWall supports cache management, logger level configuration, and migration of legacy data from an older directory location. Its design focuses on lightweight, scriptable wallpaper changes without requiring a graphical interface.
