Readest

Readest is an open‑source ebook reader that runs on macOS, Windows, Linux, Android, iOS and the Web. It is built with Next.js 16 and Tauri v2, offering a modern, cross‑platform interface for immersive reading. The application supports a wide range of formats—including EPUB, MOBI, KF8, FB2, CBZ, TXT and PDF—and provides both scrolling and paginated view modes.

Reading tools include full‑text search, highlights, bookmarks, notes, dictionary and Wikipedia lookups, and instant‑mode interactions. Users can customize fonts, layout, themes and colors, and the reader offers code syntax highlighting for technical manuals. Library management features such as file‑association, OPDS/Calibre integration, and split‑screen parallel reading help organize and access collections. Accessibility is addressed with keyboard navigation and screen‑reader support, while visual aids like a reading ruler and speed‑reading mode enhance focus.

Additional capabilities cover translation via DeepL and Yandex, multilingual text‑to‑speech, and synchronization of books, progress, notes and bookmarks across devices, including optional Koreader syncing. Planned enhancements include AI‑generated summaries and detailed reading statistics.
