Repose

Menu bar break timer that dims your screen and pauses during calls.

Source

Repose lives in the macOS menu bar and runs a configurable work‑break cycle. Users set a work interval between five and sixty minutes and a break length from twenty seconds to five minutes; a countdown is shown in the menu bar and, when the interval ends, the screen dims to remind the user to look away. The timer automatically pauses when the camera or microphone is active, indicating a meeting, and also pauses after five minutes of no keyboard or mouse activity, resetting when the user returns.

The application detects meetings by querying CoreMediaIO for active cameras and CoreAudio for microphones, so it works with any video‑call software without calendar or app‑specific configuration. It also distinguishes passive screen use, such as video playback, from genuine idle time, ensuring break reminders continue during media consumption.

Repose is an open‑source, free‑tier utility for macOS 13 and later, distributed as a DMG with automatic updates via Sparkle. The interface is confined to the menu bar, offering pause, resume, restart, and settings without a separate preferences window.
