Ripcord
Desktop chat client for Slack (and Discord)
Ripcord provides a native desktop interface for group‑focused messaging services such as Slack and Discord. It replaces the web‑based clients with a lightweight application that runs directly on macOS, Windows and Linux, offering multiple windows, separate account handling, and support for voice chat on Discord (with Slack voice in development). The client includes graphical and custom emoji, tab‑completion for usernames and emojis, and customizable fonts, colors and sizes, as well as bookmark lists to surface frequently used channels.
Designed for power users, Ripcord emphasizes low resource consumption, avoiding GPU usage and avoiding any tracking or analytics. It adapts to variable DPI settings and multi‑monitor configurations, and does not rely on a browser engine, resulting in quick response to user input. The software is distributed as a zip or AppImage without an installer, and updates are optional rather than forced.
The application is shareware: core features can be evaluated freely, while full Slack functionality requires a one‑time license purchase. The license is a permanent, non‑subscription entitlement that includes a year of free upgrades and can be used on any number of personal computers owned by the same user.
