RWTS PDFwriter
Print driver for printing documents directly to a pdf file
RWTS PDFwriter installs a virtual printer on macOS 11.0 and later, allowing any application that can print to send its output directly to a PDF file. The driver works like a normal printer selection; when a document is printed to PDFwriter, the resulting PDF is saved in a folder that the user defines during installation. The accompanying PDFWriter Utility lets users set or change this destination folder and also provides an uninstall script for complete removal.
The package includes a universal binary that runs on both Intel and Apple Silicon Macs, and the installation process creates the printer entry in System Preferences > Printers & Scanners. Users can access the utility later via the printer’s Options & Supplies button to adjust the output location.
The project is released under the GNU GPL version 2, permitting modification and redistribution under the same license. Source code is available for building custom versions, and the installer can be signed and notarized with an Apple Developer ID if desired.
