Samvera Hyrax

Front-end for the Samvera framework, which itself is a Ruby on Rails application for browsing and managing Fedora-based digital repositories.

A Ruby on Rails engine that serves as the front‑end layer for the Samvera framework, enabling the creation of digital repository applications that sit on top of Fedora‑based back ends. By mounting the engine inside a Rails application, developers can build a “Hyrax‑based” repository with configurable object types, workflow‑driven content deposit, and flexible metadata description. An administrative dashboard lets institutions enable or disable optional features without modifying code.

The engine targets libraries, archives, museums, and other organizations that need to curate, browse, and manage digital collections. It is self‑hostable, offered under the Apache 2.0 license, and maintained by the open‑source Samvera community. Documentation, community Slack, and a mailing list provide support for deployment, development, and contribution.

What distinguishes this project is its modular design as a Rails engine rather than a full application, allowing teams to integrate the repository UI into existing Rails projects while leveraging Samvera’s shared infrastructure and community‑driven best practices.
