SeedDMS is a PHP‑based document management system that can be self‑hosted and accessed through a web interface. It supports full‑text indexing, LDAP authentication, and a console tool for administrative tasks such as installing extensions. The platform includes workflow features, granular access rights, and notification mechanisms that alert users to document changes, approvals, or new uploads.
The system is extensible; an optional “paperless” extension implements the Paperless NGX API, allowing compatible clients to interact with SeedDMS as if it were a Paperless NGX server. Additional extensions enable functions like document conversion for preview images and OAI‑PMH repository support.
SeedDMS is released under GPL‑2.0, has been in active development for over a decade, and is positioned for multi‑user environments where document storage, retrieval, and controlled sharing are required. It is free, open‑source, and does not rely on subscription services.
