SelfControl
Block your own access to distracting websites
SelfControl is a free, open‑source macOS utility that lets users prevent access to selected websites, mail servers, or other Internet destinations for a user‑defined period. The application presents a simple interface where a blocklist is entered, a duration is set, and a “Start” button initiates the restriction. Once activated, the block persists even across system restarts or removal of the program, ensuring the user cannot bypass the restriction during the timer.
The tool is aimed at individuals who want to reduce online distractions while working, studying, or performing other tasks that require focus. By controlling access at the operating‑system level, it provides a straightforward way to enforce self‑imposed limits without requiring external services or additional hardware.
SelfControl runs on macOS 10.10 and later, with an older version available for macOS 10.8–10.9. It is distributed under an open‑source license, allowing users to inspect, modify, and contribute to the code base.
