Session
Onion routing based messenger
Session is a decentralized messenger that routes all communications through an onion‑routing network, eliminating the collection of metadata such as phone numbers or email addresses. Users register with an Account ID, and the app stores no personal data, which prevents data breaches and eliminates third‑party tracking. End‑to‑end encryption secures each conversation, and messages can be set to disappear after a chosen period.
The client runs on macOS and is built by a global community of privacy experts, with thousands of volunteer nodes operating the routing infrastructure. Because the source code is open, anyone can audit or contribute to the project, ensuring transparency and community‑driven development.
In addition to private one‑to‑one chats, Session supports group and community conversations for up to one hundred participants, allowing users to manage encryption keys, customize themes, and control message lifecycles while maintaining the same privacy guarantees across all interactions.
