Simple Comic

Simple Comic is a macOS‑only application designed to view comic book files with minimal interaction. It supports common comic archive formats such as CBR and CBZ, and includes a Quick Look plugin that generates thumbnails and previews directly in the Finder. The viewer provides typical navigation features including page ordering, two‑page spreads, rotation, and zooming.

On Apple Silicon Macs the app leverages Apple’s built‑in Optical Character Recognition to enable selectable text within comic panels. Users can drag to select text, copy it, or invoke text‑to‑speech, and the cursor changes to indicate selectable regions. Additional shortcuts allow multiple selection rectangles and contextual actions via control‑click.

The project is a maintained fork of an earlier version, with a focus on privacy: the application itself does not collect any user data. Source code is available under an open‑source license, and building requires initializing the repository’s submodules.
