Tolaria
A free + open source app to manage your AI second brain
Tolaria stores notes as plain Markdown files with a YAML front‑matter, letting users edit with a block‑based interface that mimics Notion while keeping the data readable by any editor or searchable from the terminal. The application adds native support for wikilinks, slash commands, drag‑and‑drop images, and rich relationships between notes, all stored on disk without a proprietary database.
Version control is built in: a fully integrated Git client allows committing, pushing, and browsing history directly from the app, so changes are tracked and can be synchronized across devices with the user’s existing Git workflow. A dedicated MCP server exposes the notes to command‑line tools, facilitating automation and integration with Claude Code.
The tool targets individuals who maintain extensive personal knowledge bases and want a free, open‑source solution that combines the flexibility of Markdown with AI‑ready features and robust versioning. It is positioned as an experimental productivity app for managing a “second brain” in the AI era.
