Tonearm
Calm background radio for deep work
Tonearm provides a single‑click, lo‑fi focus radio that runs as a Chrome extension, delivering curated ambient, indie, coding and other low‑key stations directly in the browser. Users simply select one of the eight preset stations and press a prominent play button; the audio stream comes straight from the original providers without any intermediate backend, so playback continues even when tabs are closed. All settings—such as default station and volume—are stored locally in Chrome storage, and no personal data, listening history, or analytics are collected.
The extension is designed for people who need a calm background soundtrack while working, writing, studying or coding, aiming to eliminate decision fatigue by removing playlists, algorithms and account requirements. A keyboard shortcut can be bound to toggle playback, allowing users to stay in their workflow without switching contexts.
Tonearm is positioned as a privacy‑first, lightweight alternative to larger music services, with a forthcoming macOS menu‑bar version that will offer the same one‑click experience outside the browser. The project is currently experimental and available for Chrome, with a Mac app in development.
