WAIL
Web Archiving Integration Layer: One-Click User Instigated Preservation
WAIL provides a graphical interface that wraps established web‑archiving tools, allowing users to capture and replay web pages with a single click. Through the GUI it launches Heritrix 3.7.0 for crawling and OpenWayback 2.4.0 for replay, while bundled support packages such as Apache Tomcat, MemGator and PyInstaller handle the required services and packaging.
The application is distributed as a native macOS (.app) or Windows (.exe) binary, so end‑users do not need a Python installation; they simply launch the executable after downloading or installing via Homebrew on macOS. Source builds are possible with provided scripts, and the project includes instructions for creating macOS icons and for Windows packaging. A separate Electron‑based fork exists for higher‑fidelity capture, but the primary repository focuses on traditional institutional‑grade archiving tools.
WAIL is aimed at individuals or institutions that need an easy, point‑and‑click way to preserve web content without manually configuring command‑line archiving utilities. Its stable release status and bundled dependencies make it a ready‑to‑use solution for web‑preservation workflows on supported desktop platforms.
