Wazo
Full-featured IPBX solution built atop Asterisk with integrated Web administration interface and REST-ful API.
Wazo Platform provides a self‑hosted IP telephony system built on Asterisk, RTPEngine and Kamailio, offering carrier‑grade features such as audio and video calls, chat, voicemail, conferences and call‑center functionality. Its architecture is divided into four layers: an application layer with SDKs for mobile and web apps, a business layer exposing a REST API for managing users, devices, billing and load balancing, a services layer handling core telephony functions, and a technical layer that supplies HTTP, messaging, database and OS integration through components like Nginx, RabbitMQ and PostgreSQL.
The system is designed with an API‑first approach; all programmable interfaces are described with OpenAPI specifications and include WebRTC, REST, WebSockets and Webhooks, making it straightforward to integrate with external services such as speech‑to‑text, AI analysis or custom billing engines. It can be deployed on bare metal, virtual machines or containers and scales horizontally via its micro‑service design.
Wazo is released under GPL‑3.0, is free to use without subscription, and is maintained by an open‑source community. It targets developers and organizations that need a customizable, programmable telecom infrastructure they can host and extend themselves.
