ZeroNet
Decentralised websites using Bitcoin crypto and BitTorrent network
ZeroNet creates and serves websites without a central server by combining Bitcoin‑style cryptography with the BitTorrent peer‑to‑peer network. Each site is identified by a .bit domain derived from a Namecoin address, and content is distributed directly among visitors, eliminating hosting costs and a single point of failure. The system uses the same public‑key mechanisms that protect Bitcoin wallets, so users authenticate without passwords.
The platform runs on modern browsers across Windows, macOS, Linux and an experimental Android build, and it can be routed through Tor for additional anonymity. Pages load quickly because they are fetched from nearby peers, and dynamic, real‑time updates are supported for multi‑user sites. Offline access is possible when a user continues to seed a site while disconnected from the internet.
ZeroNet is open source and maintained by its community, emphasizing uncensored, free communication. It is packaged as a small executable or app bundle for each supported OS, requiring only download and launch to begin creating or browsing decentralized sites.
