Battery
App for managing battery charging. (Also installs a CLI on first use.)
The software monitors and controls the charging behavior of Apple Silicon MacBooks, keeping the battery at a user‑defined threshold—defaulting to 80 %—to help extend its lifespan. When the battery exceeds the set level it disables charging even while the notebook is plugged in, and re‑enables charging once the level drops below the threshold. The limit persists across reboots and when the tray icon is closed.
A graphical macOS app provides a simple tray interface and automatically installs a command‑line tool that offers the same functionality with additional options, such as custom charge ranges, manual on/off control, and calibration commands. The CLI can be installed independently via a one‑line script that places the required `smc` utility and the `battery` binary in `/usr/local/bin`.
The tool is distributed as free, open‑source software for Apple Silicon Macs only; it can be obtained through Homebrew, a downloadable DMG, or the CLI‑only installer. It is intended for users who want to manage battery health by limiting charge levels.
