ByteThirst estimates the water, energy and CO₂ impact of each AI prompt a user submits across a range of services, including popular chat and code‑generation platforms such as ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Copilot and others. The tool runs locally as a Chrome extension or as a command‑line interface, extracting usage data on the device and presenting daily and weekly totals in familiar volume units (tsp, tbsp, cups) alongside energy and carbon figures.

The audience consists of developers, researchers and anyone who regularly interacts with AI models and wants a private, transparent view of the environmental cost of their queries. By displaying a “QueryWeight” dashboard, the software lets individuals track personal footprints, generate shareable impact cards and earn achievement badges, while a Teams mode enables organizations to view collective usage and set shared goals.
