Chyrp Lite

Chyrp Lite lets you run a blog on your own web server with minimal setup. It supports traditional blogging, tumbleblogging, or a broader publishing site by combining blog features with custom pages. Six responsive HTML5 themes and an administration console work across many devices, and semantic markup with ARIA labeling makes the site accessible to users of assistive technologies.

The engine uses a flexible “Feathers” system to handle different content types—plain text, Markdown, photos, quotes, links, video, audio, and multi‑file uploads—while “Pages” allow separate static or hierarchical content. Extensibility is built in: Twig‑based themes, a rights model for users, and a range of modules for caching, categorization, tags, comments, likes, webmentions, infinite scrolling, lightbox image viewing, SEO sitemaps, spam protection, syntax highlighting, MathJax, and more.

It runs on PHP 8.1+ with common extensions and supports MySQL, SQLite, or PostgreSQL databases. Installation is a three‑step process or a Docker‑based four‑step alternative, and upgrades follow a straightforward backup‑replace‑restore workflow. The project is open‑source under a BSD‑3‑Clause license, self‑hostable, free, and actively maintained.
