Cinc Workstation
Installer for Chef infrastructure management tools
Cinc Workstation provides an installer for a collection of infrastructure‑automation tools that mirror the functionality of Chef Workstation, packaged for Unix, Linux, macOS and Windows. The distribution can be installed via a single script that fetches the appropriate version from the Cinc server, or by downloading plain packages from the project’s download site. It supports the default package managers on each supported platform.
The bundle includes equivalents of Chef’s core utilities—such as the client, analyzer, apply, shell, solo, zero, and InSpec—renamed to Cinc binaries for compliance. On Linux, the Habitat tool is replaced by the Biome CLI. Configuration files are stored in a user‑specific directory (~/.cinc-workstation on Unix‑like systems, %USERPROFILE%\.cinc-workstation on Windows) and are compatible with existing Chef configurations, allowing users to migrate by copying or symlinking their settings.
All tools behave like their Chef counterparts, and the original Chef documentation remains applicable. Wrappers map the renamed binaries back to the expected commands, enabling seamless integration with existing automation workflows.
