Elephicon

Elephicon provides a graphical interface for converting PNG images into Apple ICNS and Microsoft ICO icon files. It wraps the png2icons utility, allowing users to drag or select a PNG—ideally a 24‑bit, 1024 × 1024 image with an alpha channel—and generate the full set of icon sizes required for macOS and Windows applications. The tool also supports non‑square source images and can produce ICO files from 256 × 256 PNGs when only that format is needed.

The application includes a context‑menu with assorted settings and offers a range of embedded dimensions, such as 16 × 16 up to 512 × 512 (including retina‑scaled variants for ICNS). Users can choose which sizes to include, and the output files contain the appropriate resolutions for each platform. Language support spans dozens of locales, with translations contributed via JSON files in the source tree.

Elephicon is a stable, macOS‑focused utility distributed through GitHub releases. Its open‑source nature permits community contributions, particularly for adding or improving language packs, and it relies on the MIT‑licensed png2icons library for the core conversion functionality.
