Fing Desktop provides a graphical interface for scanning local networks on Windows and macOS, displaying every device that is currently connected and identifying its type. It continuously monitors the network in the background, generating a timeline of events such as devices joining or leaving, and can run automated checks for common security issues. Users can block unwanted devices with a single click, limit internet access for specific devices or schedules, and perform built‑in diagnostics like ping, traceroute, and DNS checks.

The tool also includes automated speed testing to log internet performance over time and sends real‑time alerts when critical events occur, for example when a new device connects or the Wi‑Fi goes down. A timeline view aggregates all activity, test results, and alerts for easy review.
