hitobito
Manage complex group hierarchies with members, events and a lot more.
Hitobito is a web‑based, self‑hostable application for managing organisations that have layered group structures. It stores contacts and members, assigns role‑based permissions, and supports courses, events, mailings and other communication tools. The core system defines a tree of group types, each with its own role types and permission sets, while specific group and role definitions are supplied through plugins built on the Wagons framework.
The platform targets associations, clubs, political parties and other entities that need to model federated or distributed hierarchies. Users can create unlimited organisational units, manage memberships from any device, and run fully digital registration and waiting‑list processes for events and courses. Documentation is available in German, and the software includes APIs, OAuth and OIDC support for integration.
Hitobito is released under the AGPL‑3.0 licence, is maintained as a stable, open‑source project, and offers a free tier without subscription requirements. Its plugin architecture allows organisations to extend functionality to match their specific workflows while keeping the core system lightweight and adaptable.
