keet
Peer-to-peer video and text chat
Keet is a peer‑to‑peer chat application that provides text messaging, video calls and file sharing without relying on any central servers. All communication is end‑to‑end encrypted, and the software does not store personal data, phone numbers or email addresses. Users can start a conversation simply by installing the app, and identity is protected with a 24‑word seed phrase.
The video component uses direct peer‑to‑peer connections to deliver crystal‑clear audio and video with minimal lag, supporting both one‑to‑one and larger group calls. File transfers are unlimited in size and also occur directly between participants, preserving privacy and avoiding intermediary storage.
Keet offers “Rooms” that can be opened for broadcast or read‑only participation, allowing creators to share content with audiences while limiting interaction to reactions. The design targets users who prioritize privacy and want a decentralized alternative to traditional messaging services, and it runs on macOS as a stable, native application.
