Memories extends a Nextcloud installation with a full‑featured photo and video library. It reads EXIF data on upload, builds a chronological timeline, and lets users jump to any date, create and share albums, and edit metadata such as titles, dates, GPS coordinates, and tags in bulk. The app also offers a map view that plots photos using reverse‑geocoded locations.
Automatic tagging is provided through integration with the Recognize and Face Recognition apps, allowing AI‑generated keywords and face labels. Video files are transcoded on demand, with optional hardware acceleration, and streamed via HLS for smooth playback. External sharing lets albums be accessed by people outside the Nextcloud instance.
The solution is self‑hosted, open source under AGPL‑3.0, and designed for performance on large collections, even on modest hardware. It stores metadata primarily in EXIF headers and respects existing filesystem organization, facilitating migration without lock‑in.
