ngircd

Portable and lightweight Internet Relay Chat server for small or private networks.

ngIRCd provides a lightweight IRC daemon designed for small or private networks. It runs as a single‑node server or can be linked with other ngIRCd instances to form a LAN or internet‑wide network. The software supports IPv6, SSL/TLS for client and server connections, PAM authentication, IDENT requests, and character‑set conversion for legacy clients, while offering common user and channel modes and optional cloaking of user identities.

The daemon is written in C, follows relevant IRC standards, and is intended to implement the useful commands and semantics used by modern clients rather than the full quirks of older implementations. Configuration is handled through a concise file, and the package includes manual pages and quick‑start documentation to simplify installation, upgrading, and operation.

ngIRCd is released under GPL‑2.0, is self‑hostable, and runs on a wide range of platforms including Linux, macOS, BSD variants, Solaris, and Windows via WSL or Cygwin. It is stable, free to use, and available in the repositories of many operating systems.
