Open Agents provides a platform for creating coding agents that operate continuously in the cloud. Each agent runs inside an isolated Vercel sandbox that offers full filesystem, network, and runtime access, allowing it to perform file operations, shell commands, and task delegation autonomously. Developers describe the desired outcome and the agent executes until completion, handling multi‑model interactions through a unified AI SDK and routing requests via an AI Gateway with built‑in fallbacks and observability.

The system stores work in durable workflows that survive restarts, retries, and failures. Checkpointing and automatic commit mechanisms ensure that progress is never lost, while snapshots enable instant restoration of sandbox state. Agents can be paused, hibernated on inactivity, and later resumed from any client, preserving usage tracking and diff caching.

Infrastructure is built on production‑grade components from the Vercel ecosystem, offering secure, cloud‑based environments rather than local machines. The platform integrates with git for automatic branching, committing, and pushing of code, providing a real‑world development pipeline for autonomous agents.
