OpenVanilla

Provides common input methods

Visit

OpenVanilla is a macOS‑only input‑method framework that supplies a collection of common Chinese and Japanese keyboards. The package includes built‑in layouts such as Cangjie, Simple (Quick), Dayi, Row‑list, symbols, Japanese kana, and Cantonese pinyin, and it allows users to import additional .cin tables through the preference pane to create custom input methods.

Targeted at macOS users who need alternative or supplemental typing schemes, the software integrates with the system’s input‑method menu and can be installed by extracting the downloaded archive and running the provided installer. The default layout after first installation is Cangjie, but any of the bundled or imported tables can be selected at any time.

OpenVanilla is released under the MIT License, with source code available on GitHub for modification or recompilation. Documentation covers importing tables, creating custom .cin files, and troubleshooting, and a Google Groups forum offers community support. The current stable release (1.8.4) requires macOS 10.15 Catalina or later.
