PeerTube
Decentralized video streaming platform using P2P (BitTorrent) directly in the web browser.
PeerTube provides a video‑hosting service that runs on a network of independent, self‑hosted instances. Each instance stores its own library of uploaded videos and can stream them to viewers using Web‑based peer‑to‑peer (BitTorrent) technology, allowing playback without relying on a central server. The platform also supports live streaming and offers embedding of its player on external sites.
Because instances are federated, a video published on one server becomes discoverable across the whole PeerTube “fediverse,” and users can follow channels and interact with creators without needing accounts on every host. The software includes tools for managing video metadata, subtitles, quality settings, and analytics, and it supplies a mobile client that aggregates content from all connected instances.
The project is released under the AGPL‑3.0 license, is free of subscription fees and advertising, and is maintained by the non‑profit Framasoft community. It is designed for individuals or organizations that want to run their own video platform while remaining part of a larger, interoperable network.
