Perian

Perian is an open‑source QuickTime component that adds support for a wide range of media formats, such as AVI, DivX and XviD, as well as subtitle handling. By installing the component, QuickTime on macOS 10.4.7 or later can decode and play these formats without needing separate players. The software was maintained by a community team from 2006 until its retirement in 2012, after which no further development or official support is provided.
