Quail

Quail is a desktop client that connects to the ESA documentation platform, offering an unofficial but officially accepted way to work with ESA content from macOS, Windows, and Linux. It provides a graphical interface for creating, editing, and browsing ESA posts, allowing users to interact with their documentation without using a web browser. The application is packaged as an Electron‑based app, with installation options that include direct zip extraction or Homebrew cask on macOS.

Targeted at developers, technical writers, and teams that use ESA for knowledge sharing, Quail streamlines routine tasks such as composing markdown, navigating project structures, and previewing rendered pages. Because it runs locally, it can operate with the same permissions and API access that the official web client uses, while integrating with the operating system’s file handling and window management.

The project is released under the MIT license and is maintained by Shogo Sensui. It has a stable maturity level and includes continuous integration testing, as indicated by the GitHub Actions badge. The software is distributed via GitHub releases for each supported platform.
