Request Tracker is an open‑source, enterprise‑grade issue and ticket tracking system that lets organizations record tasks, assign ownership, monitor progress, and log completion dates. It stores tickets in a supported SQL database and can be accessed through a web interface or via email, allowing users to create and update tickets from their inboxes. The software runs on Perl 5.26.3 or newer and requires a web server with FastCGI or mod_perl support, such as Apache or nginx.
The platform is highly customizable: administrators can define workflows, automate actions with scrips, build charts, and configure dashboards through a visual UI. Optional features include full‑text indexing, external HTML conversion, and TLS for secure access. A responsive Bootstrap‑based theme and dark mode are provided out of the box, and the system can be extended with additional modules.
Because it is released under GPL‑2.0, Request Tracker can be self‑hosted without subscription fees, and it is supported commercially for hosting, training, and professional services. It is suited for teams of any size that need a flexible ticketing solution beyond a basic help desk.
