Serviio
Media server
Serviio is a free media server that runs on Windows, macOS and Linux, including embedded systems such as NAS devices. It streams video, audio and image files from a host computer to any DLNA‑certified renderer on the local network, such as TVs, game consoles, smartphones and tablets. The server can apply device‑specific profiles and perform transcoding to match the capabilities of each client.
The software is built with Java, allowing it to operate across multiple platforms without modification. Users can manage their media libraries through a web interface, and a Pro edition adds remote access, a dedicated MediaBrowser application, and integration with voice assistants like Alexa for hands‑free control.
Developers can extend Serviio via a REST API and plugin system, with documentation and community support available through a wiki and forums. The project is maintained by Petr Nejedly and incorporates several open‑source libraries.
