TabMail

TabMail adds an AI‑driven assistant to both Mozilla Thunderbird and iOS, allowing users to triage, compose, and search messages while keeping the underlying email client unchanged. The Thunderbird add‑on integrates with the existing open‑source client, providing a fresh interface and AI‑enhanced actions without altering core functionality. The iOS app offers a native experience for managing inboxes on the go, mirroring the same capabilities.

All AI processing is performed on TabMail’s backend, but the service does not retain email or calendar content after the request completes. Users can toggle AI features on or off at any time, and personalization data such as prompts and preferences remain stored locally on the device, with optional cross‑device sync. Account and usage information is kept only to support the service, and community templates can be shared voluntarily.

The project is experimental and source‑available for Thunderbird, built on a stack of open‑source Swift libraries for networking, IMAP, SQLite, HTML parsing, and related protocols. It is independent of Mozilla and does not claim any affiliation with the Mozilla Foundation.
