Tribler
Privacy enhanced BitTorrent client with P2P content discovery
Tribler is a BitTorrent client that integrates peer‑to‑peer content discovery with privacy‑focused networking. It replaces the traditional tracker model with an internal Tor‑like overlay, allowing users to download and stream torrents anonymously through hidden services, end‑to‑end encryption, and strong cryptographic authentication. The software also supports ordinary BitTorrent operations, so it can be used for both private and public sharing.
The client is aimed at users who value anonymity and resistance to censorship when obtaining files over the internet. By embedding its own anonymous routing layer, Tribler seeks to make it difficult to block or shut down the service without affecting the broader network. Its open‑source nature and GPL‑3.0 license encourage community contributions and audits of the privacy mechanisms.
Tribler runs on macOS and is packaged for Linux distributions via Flathub, with additional guidance for GNOME environments. The project has been under development since 2004, offering a stable release that includes a tray‑icon interface, documentation, and community support channels such as Discord.
