ViDL for Mac

GUI frontend for youtube-dl

Visit

A macOS application provides a graphical interface to the youtube‑dl command‑line tool, enabling users to download videos from YouTube and many other supported sites for offline viewing. It simplifies the process of handling videos and playlists that require authentication by allowing users to log in through an integrated web browser, which supplies the necessary session cookies for private or “Watch Later” content.

The app includes a Safari extension and a bookmarklet that work in other browsers, letting users trigger downloads directly from the page they are viewing. Users can download whole playlists by entering a URL or selecting individual items from thumbnail previews, and they may choose to extract only the audio track from a video or download audio‑only streams where the source site offers them.

Supported websites match those of youtube‑dl, and the application can update the underlying tool from its preferences to maintain compatibility. Downloads pause automatically when the program quits and resume on the next launch, preserving progress without per‑file control.
